aimLess by rum•gold

Rarely do I ever recommend an entire album or E.P. but rum•gold’s newest project is spellbinding. The Brooklyn based R&B singer song writer had been releasing music anonymously for years, owing the secrecy to a lack of confidence. He credits the feedback he received on Soundcloud throughout that time as one of the reasons he was able to build the confidence to tie a face to his music. Read more about the meaning behind aimLess below and be sure to give the whole thing multiple listens (like I have).
"I think the feelings I’m trying to explore on “aiMless” are much more complex than those of my first EP, because I’m trying to understand why I am the way I am. “aiMless” is me attempting to explore where I come from, to know where not go. In some ways, I feel like I bit off more than I could chew because trying to understand the ways in which trauma cycles through generations and my place in that cycle would require more space than a 4 song EP. But, this is just a beginning."
Cheer Up, My Brother by HNNY

Taking a sample from Ellen McIlwaine’s 1973 gospel song Farther Along, Swedish DJ HNNY creates a fresh up-tempo take in Cheer Up, My Brother. This track is featured on his first full-length album Sunday (2015) and has an old school feel to it. His musical influences span from De La Soul to Caribou and he credits the laid back vibe of his music to artists that produce music for “listening” rather than dancing. If you’re looking for something to carry you through an afternoon, check out this HNNY track.
