new music + artist discovery

Stay Tru by Mereba

While her recent feature on Michelle Obama’s new podcast may have brought Mereba to new listener’s ears, the L.A. based artist has been delivering consistently since her self-released E.P. in 2013. Early last year, Mereba released her first studio album, The Jungle is the Only Way Out, which impressively combines traditional R&B with flavors of folk and blues guitar.

Mereba credits her eclectic mix of influences to her love of artists like Whitney Houston & Lauryn Hill to Joni Mitchell & Tracy Chapman. If you’re looking for a refreshing take on traditional R&B, check out Stay Tru below.

Morning Matters by Yazmin Lacey

Yazmin Lacey's third EP, Morning Matters is dedicated to “anyone that’s ever struggled with getting up and out in the morning, for everyone doing work on themselves and trying to live better”. The release comes just just three years after her debut project in 2017 which was recorded in her living room.

Morning Matters is influenced by some of London’s leading jazz stars, including critically acclaimed drummer and producer Moses Boyd. Combined with Lacey’s sultry R&B inspired tone, percussion, horn and keys work together to elevate each track on the EP. Give the new release a listen through Spotify and check out her COLORS studio acoustic performance of “Own Your Own” below.
