new music + artist discovery
This week i'm welcoming my good friend Lucas Chiang as a guest contributor to sound | bytes. You've seen his name in a few previous editions and i'm excited to share his thoughts on some new artists. Enjoy his two picks below.

Fire for You by Cannons

This 3-piece L.A.-based band is starting to make their name through captivating, melodic, boogie music. In Fire for You, Cannons puts together a synthy, electro-pop dreamworld with a groovy bassline that has listeners bopping away through heartbreak lyrics. Lead singer Michelle Joy’s vocals are ethereal, almost relaxing. The spacey foundation of the song brings out that extra punch and pop you can hear in the drums and production. Catch the vibe at the link below.

Big Conspiracy by J Hus feat. iceè tgm

Big Conspiracy, the title track off J Hus’ second album immediately puts his listeners on notice that he’s back in big way. He raps about choosing his own nature after reflecting on recent arrests, battles with public perception, and finding his place in a society that doesn’t welcome him.

While the lyrics on the album speak to his personal growth, it’s clear the music has grown in him too. Taking cues from his first album, Common Sense, J Hus continues to blend street braggadocio with crisp multi-genre production, drawing from R&B, afro-pop, dancehall, and more. His charisma pairs well with just about any beat he gets his hands on. Check this one out below.
