Morning Blue by Gaidaa

When I first heard Morning Blue by Gaidaa, I knew the track would be just a taste of what the Dutch-Sudanese singer-songwriter had to offer. Her vocals cut through sharply after a smooth down-tempo introduction, waking up listeners that may have been lulled by the song's neo-soul influences.

Gaidaa dedicated this track to 26 year old Sudanese protestor Mohamed Mattar, who lost his life in 2019 battling for democracy in Sudan. The song's title is influenced by both Mattar's favorite color, which was said to blue, and an arabic phrase "sabah el kheir” (found in the chorus of the song) which translates to “morning of well being”.

Morning Blue remains my favorite track by the rising artist but her entire EP is well worth a listen. Check it out below.
