new music + artist discovery
This week's guest contributor is my best friend Adaeze Nwakobi. If you thought I was a concert kween, i've surely met my match in her. Her music sense and ability to pick out new artists on the rise is second to none, so be sure to check out her two picks below.

Lockdown by Koffee

\ Where will we go? \
\ When di quarantine ting done and everybody touch road \

Koffee released a fun and upbeat quarantine love song hot enough for a summer season inside, but cool enough to carry us through cuffing season. It was an instant addition to my daily rotation. I fell in love with the lyrics immediately! If you’ve been lucky enough to cultivate romance virtually this year and/or suffer from wanderlust, this track was made for you.

The Jamaican born artist has risen in popularity quickly with huge breakout tracks - Toast and Rapture - and features with Gunna, Daniel Caesar, and J Hus (featured on sound | bytes edition no.13). Her songs often highlight themes of gratitude and positivity, a pivot from traditional dancehall themes. Koffee created a big chune with Lockdown. Get into the island quarantine anthem below.

The Mutha of Tears by BbyMutha

\ mutha melatonin, these bitches sleepin on me \

BbyMutha is for my fellow confident misfits. The Mutha of Tears is one of her lesser know tracks, but a standout on her 2018 EP, The Bastard Tape, Vol 1. BbyMutha spits unforgettable bars over a villainous beat reminiscent of her southern underground roots. She is raw. She is uninhibited. And unfortunately, now, she is retired at 30.

With COLORS Show becoming a marker for success and talent to watch, it is somewhat a mystery why BbbyMutha decided to retire so early in her above-ground rap career. She is still releasing some music on Bandcamp, so perhaps she feels more comfortable in the underground. Either way, I am grateful for her prolific catalog. Grab something green and get into the track below.
